Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Consistent yard care prevents garden pest plants and hidden water reservoirs from re-establishing. Establish a routine schedule to maintain a pest-resistant landscape throughout the entire growing season.

Weekly Garden Audits

Walk your garden beds once every five to seven days during warm weather. Empty any water sitting in container saucers, birdbaths, outdoor toys, and decorative yard accents.

Use a high-pressure hose nozzle to flush the leaf joints of decorative foliage plants. This simple physical action washes away mosquito eggs before larvae can complete their growth cycle.

Larvicide Application Routine

Apply EPA-approved Bti granules to ponds, fountains, and rainwater harvesting barrels every 7 to 14 days. This natural bacterium destroys the digestive tracts of mosquito larvae within 24 hours.

Bti targets only mosquitoes, blackflies, and fungus gnats. It leaves beneficial honeybees, butterflies, birds, fish, and family pets completely unharmed.

Seasonal Pruning and Canopy Management

Prune the lower branches of boundary hedges each spring to maintain at least six inches of clear space above ground level. This elevation boosts air circulation and allows sunlight to dry the soil surface quickly.

Rake away thick autumn leaf litter from perennial beds before winter sets in. Decaying wet leaves form an insulating blanket that shelters overwintering mosquito species until spring arrives.
