Maintaining paint sheen and stain depth requires routine cleaning habits and moisture management. High-traffic kitchen cabinets endure daily friction, steam from dishwashers, and food splatters that can erode enamel over time if left unaddressed.
Daily and Weekly Cleaning: Wipe down cabinet doors near cooking surfaces weekly using a soft microfiber cloth dampened with warm water and a small drop of gentle dish soap. Never use abrasive scrubbing pads, steel wool, or harsh chemical sprays containing ammonia, as these scratch the clear enamel coat and strip away surface gloss.
Seasonal Upkeep: Inspect cabinet doors around your sink, dishwasher, and trash pull-outs every six months for moisture buildup or finish swelling. Solid wood doors expand and contract naturally with seasonal relative humidity changes; keep indoor humidity between 35 and 55 percent to prevent joint separation or wood cracking.
Touch-Ups and Spot Repairs: Store half a quart of leftover cabinet paint and primer in a tightly sealed glass mason jar in a climate-controlled room. If a small chip occurs on an edge, dab a tiny drop of primer using an artist’s fine detail paintbrush, let it dry, and dab a matching drop of topcoat paint directly over the repair spot.
