Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Maintaining healthy indoor air requires minimal ongoing effort once you establish baseline measurements and implement mitigation equipment.

Checking the U-Tube Manometer: Every active mitigation system features an oil-filled U-tube manometer mounted to the vertical PVC suction pipe. This fluid gauge does not read radon concentrations directly; instead, it measures differential vacuum pressure. Check the gauge monthly. If the colored fluid levels balance equally on both sides, the inline extraction fan has lost power or failed, signaling an immediate need for electrical service or fan replacement.

Fan Lifespan and System Re-Testing: High-efficiency radon inline centrifugal fans run continuously and typically deliver a reliable operating lifespan of 5 to 10 years. Schedule professional fan replacements promptly when motor bearings develop audible humming or vibration. Furthermore, official signs your home needs radon testing include completing any post-mitigation checkup every two years to ensure seasonal changes or subterranean settling have not compromised system efficiency.
