#7 Let Perennials Stand Through Winter

If you have managed to attract them over the rest of the year, you should make sure that they will make their forever home in your garden. This will entail making sure that they have places to forage during the winter months! If you have perennials in your garden, make sure you let them stand through winter so that the cardinals can forage for dried seed heads and other foliage.

Combined with the earlier mentioned shrubs, these perennials will make for a valuable food source for them, so the flock of cardinals is more often than not inclined to just take residence in your garden. This season is also when you will be able to see a whole flock of birds. Despite being alone or in pairs the rest of the year, especially during the breeding season, they snuggle together during the winter!

It’s truly an amazing sight!

And since we were on the topic of perennials, perennial vegetables are some of the easiest to upkeep and enjoy! Make sure you check our list of the best perennial veggies to plant in your garden if you’re ever looking for a new project!
