6 Signs Your Home Has Poor Airflow (And How to Fix It)

Sliding a fresh filter into your vent is an easy maintenance step to restore clean airflow.

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Protect your investment and maintain healthy circulation by establishing a consistent seasonal maintenance routine. Preventative care eliminates unexpected HVAC airflow issues and extends system longevity.

Quarterly Filter Changes: Replace your MERV 11 air filter every 60 to 90 days. Homes with pets or high dust levels may require filter replacements every 30 days to prevent pressure drop spikes across the cooling coil.

Monthly Intake Inspections: Vacuum dust, pet hair, and lint off supply register louvers and return air grilles monthly using a brush attachment. Check exterior intake and exhaust hoods to ensure leaves, bird nests, or snow accumulation do not block outdoor fresh air exchange.

Seasonal Damper Adjustments: Adjust your main duct trunk dampers twice a year—once in spring for cooling season and once in autumn for heating season. Direct more warm air toward ground floors during winter and shift cool air toward upper levels during summer.

Annual Professional Maintenance: Schedule a certified HVAC technician each spring to inspect the evaporator coil, wash the blower wheel, measure static pressure, and verify electrical motor draw. Clean coils and calibrated blowers preserve optimal CFM output across your duct network.
