9 Designer Secrets That Make a Home Feel Calm and Relaxing

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

A peaceful home requires ongoing maintenance to preserve its restorative qualities. Clutter and grime will quickly erode the calming atmosphere you just built.

Establish a strict weekly reset routine. Wipe down your matte painted walls and wainscoting with a slightly damp microfiber cloth to remove dust without burnishing the paint finish. Heavy acoustic curtains require regular vacuuming; use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner once a month to prevent dust mites and allergens from accumulating in the deep folds.

Check your lighting systems quarterly. LED bulbs degrade slowly over time, sometimes shifting in color temperature. If your 2700K warm lights start looking overly yellow or excessively dim, replace them in batches so the room maintains a consistent glow. Check the tension on your ceiling hooks and wall anchors annually. The natural expansion and contraction of your home’s framing during seasonal humidity changes can loosen heavy-duty hardware.

For your biophilic elements, implement a regular pruning and watering schedule. Dead leaves and overgrown vines look chaotic. Repot your hanging plants every two years to ensure the root systems remain healthy and do not compromise the drainage of your hanging baskets.
