8 Bedroom Textile Combinations That’s Been All Over Design Instagram This Year

Properly storing folded linens with lavender keeps your bedroom textiles fresh and beautifully preserved.

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Investing in premium textiles requires a commitment to proper maintenance. Always check the manufacturer’s cleaning codes before tossing anything into the washing machine. Wash your natural cotton and linen sheets in cool or warm water using a mild, liquid detergent. Never use liquid fabric softeners or dryer sheets; these products coat the natural fibers in a waxy residue, destroying their breathability and causing them to degrade prematurely. Instead, toss a set of wool dryer balls into the machine to naturally soften the fabrics and reduce drying time.

Seasonal rotation extends the life of your bedroom textiles while constantly refreshing your home styling. Pack away your heavy velvets, wools, and flannel when the weather warms up. Before storing them, ensure they are completely clean and totally dry to prevent mold growth. Store natural fibers in breathable cotton canvas bags rather than airtight plastic bins, which can trap residual moisture and cause yellowing. To protect wool items from moth damage, tuck natural cedar blocks or dried lavender sachets into the storage bags.

For heavy drapery and large area rugs, commit to a strict routine vacuuming schedule. Use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum to remove dust and allergens from your curtains once a month. This simple habit preserves the fabric’s vibrant color and prevents dust mites from compromising your indoor air quality. Treat accidental stains on linens immediately with a mixture of cold water and white vinegar, gently dabbing the spot rather than rubbing it into the fibers.
