…Do you like the way your garden looks at the moment?

I remember that when I was a little kid, my grandparents used to live in an old house that was just outside the city of Gordonsville, where I grew up. My parents and I used to go there every weekend, so we could have a bit of time to relax and recharge our batteries for the busy weeks that were ahead of us.

I used to adore watching and helping my grandmother plant beautiful and colorful plants in her garden, and my grandpa taught me everything I needed to know about growing my lawn. Now that it’s been more than 40 years since these events, I still remember their pieces of advice. But I’ve also done a bit of extra research and came up with a twist of my own.

As you can imagine, I’m still passionate about having a good-looking garden, and I’m quite sure that I’m not the only one. Let’s not beat around the bush and admit the fact that a beautiful garden makes you feel a lot better, more relaxed, and overall more positive in your day-to-day life.

If you want to learn how to turn your garden into a dreamy place that will make you feel like you’re on vacation, I have some tips for you. They require a bit of time and effort but don’t worry, it’s all budget-friendly. Are you ready to transform your garden?

1. Cleaning

This might not be your cup of tea, but if you want to enjoy the results, you have to put in the work, especially when it comes to having a clean deck or patio! Start your makeover process by pulling up any weeds or plants that somehow have grown in between your patio slabs, and then sweep away the remains with a stiff brush.

And if you want to take it a bit further and spend some extra time making everything look polished, then take the same brush and use soapy water to scrub your deck and patio. And if you’ve got any stains and dirt that are stubborn, a pressure washer is going to be your best friend!

2. Paint

You know the old quote saying that “a little effort goes a long way,” don’t you? Well, it’s true. You can simply give your garden a whole different look and vibe by simply painting your deck or your patio.

You can choose a plain color that goes well with the other things in your garden, or you can get creative and look for tutorials on the Internet that will teach you how to obtain a mosaic pattern.

3. Paint your fence or shed

We’re not done with paint just yet! Another easy and budget-friendly way of giving your garden the makeover it deserves is to paint your fence or your shed, and it will completely change the whole look of your property.

The days when people used to only choose brown and white to paint their fences or sheds are long gone, and plenty of them go for bright and bold colors, such as dark blue and even pink. Go crazy with this one and choose something that will make your trees and plants pop!

4. Repair, replace, and paint your pots

Plants can really brighten up any space, making it look friendlier and more welcoming. But if some of your pots didn’t make it through the winter, you should repair them or even replace them, depending on the damage.

If you’re looking for a suggestion, terracotta plant pots are really great, and they can easily be repainted when they need it or when you grow bored of the original color.

5. Tidy up

I’m not sure about you, but I have a weird opinion that if a certain room is clean or at least tidied up, then it’s more beautiful than ever. The same thing applies to your garden as well. If you spend a bit of time cleaning and putting all the things in their place, you’ll notice that you’ll not only feel better, but your garden will also have a better look.

So pull the weeds up from the roots so that they don’t have the chance to grow back, and if you’re looking for a way to stop them from growing in your flower beds, give them an efficient border with things like concrete blocks, bricks, or sleepers.

6. Add some lights

Don’t you want to spend your morning and your evenings in the most beautiful garden you’ve ever seen? You can simply transform the one you already have into something that looks dreamy and stylish.

All you have to do is get some festoon lights and wrap them around the trees for a cozier look during the night and a nice decorative feel during the day. You can also mix and match the lights, so you can purchase glass lanterns, hurricane lamps, or oversized candles to make your garden look like the most stylish terrace bar you’ve ever been to.

7. Cozy seating area

Once you’ve tidied up all your garden furniture and everything is clean and ready for you, it’s time to take things to a whole different level of coziness. Adding some soft furnishings to your seating area, such as pillows, cushions, and even an outdoor rug, will make you feel like you’re on vacation.

…I’m sure that this place will surely become your relaxing oasis after a long, busy day!

8. Add a mirror

Mirrors are not just for your vanity or for your bathroom. They can look incredibly good in your garden as well, depending on what style and shape you go for. This simple accessory will help you play with the light and even with the size of certain spots in your garden.

If you have a dark corner or a space that is small, but you want to give off the impression that it’s actually bigger, using a mirror will help you achieve the look that you want.

9. Build a folding bar

Outdoor bars look really good, and they make everything seem more put together and polished than they actually are, but not everyone has enough space to actually build a bar. However, if you want something like this in your garden, there is a thing you can actually do: create your own little bar zone with only a couple of pallets and lengths of chain.

…Would you like to have a bar in your garden? It will pair really well with all the lights we’ve talked about in number 6!

10. The wall of plants

What can you do to brighten up the side of a shed? Just fix some vertical panels there and then add a couple of vertical hooks to hang bucket planters, fill them with herbs or plants, and you’re good to go!

To make it even better, paint it in your favorite color to make it more of a statement, and enjoy your new and natural decor piece! The best part is that if you get bored of the plants you already have there, you can always switch them up every season!

  1. I’m concerned with two feet of snow plus higher piles left by snow plows along the curbs by the street and burying my curbside mail box. Also, of concern is what to do with a dozen bags of dead leaves and the crumbling cement driveway caused by freezing and thawing and refreezing of ice. What to do with potted plants all winter?
