#3 Prolong the life of your sponges
As much as they are used for cleaning dishes, sponges can get pretty gross and dirty themselves. No matter how much we try to rinse them, sometimes it seems like the grime and smell are not going to leave anytime soon. Yet, instead of throwing them out or keeping them for the next deep house cleaning and then throwing them away, you should think about cleaning them more thoroughly.
Give them a wash with some baking soda, and you will get rid of all the musty, old smell in no time. All you have to do is add a quart of warm water to a bigger bowl or bucket, then add about 4 tablespoons of baking soda! Then add your sponges to the solution, mix them well to make sure they’re all wet, and let them sit for about five minutes.
All you need to do after is rinse them thoroughly with fresh, clean water, and you will see the smell and grime are gone! Make sure you do this every two weeks, and you will see how easy it was to prolong the life of your kitchen sponges!
