September
Main project: Clean your fireplace
If you have a wood stove or a fireplace, be sure to get it checked and professionally cleaned before you want to cuddle in front of it or toast any S’mores by the fireplace.
The National Fire Protection Association recommends that all homeowners do a chimney sweep annually to check for deposits and correct clearance. So don’t forget this item on your home maintenance checklist.
Home maintenance checklist for September:
-Check and clean your kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room exhaust fans to eliminate mold and supply good airflow.
-If you need any new appliances, September and October are the best months to buy significant devices because that’s when manufacturers unveil their latest models, and you’ll get a good deal on older inventory.
-Give your roof a good checkup, and replace or repair what’s needed. Roofers say fall is the ideal time to replace a roof because temperatures fall between 45 and 85 degrees. So it’s warm enough for shingles to stick but not so sizzling that the roofers become overheated quickly.
