Trends come and go. This is the natural state of trends, and this also applies to home design trends. What is funny is that many times they are not even trends. This year was the year of “anti-trends,” but hopefully we are expecting some changes that will totally transform the way we decorate our homes.

Nothing holds us back anymore and we are finally free to try some of the craziest things ever. Many trends had no traction this year, but it’s time to decorate your home with the things you love.

Read on and discover the most expected home design trends, and get ready for the big change!

1. Textured neutral bedrooms

Bedrooms are our sanctuaries, and this is why we want them to be described as calming. Ok, this means that the theme of a calming bedroom atmosphere is here to stay, but interior designers want more from this.

They want to add some texture because this creates depth without disrupting the serene dream we all struggled to create. Let’s say that you have a pale gray bedroom. According to the newest home design trend, you can make it more interesting by adding a tactile experience. How are you doing that? The ceiling and the floor are the focal points.

A fluffy carpet will definitely add texture, and for the ceiling, you can try a more textured fan or lamp. The color palette should be restrained, but the rich variety of textures will keep the space interesting.

2. Artsy room dividers

If you found most home design trends boring, here is a trend that might make you happy. Room dividers don’t have the sole purpose of separating spaces. They can act as a focal point and entirely change the vibe of a room.

This means you should say goodbye to your old and dull room divider and welcome some new and artsy ones that follow the latest home design trends. Top designers have their eyes set on these furniture pieces, and they guarantee they can make your home alive again.

Aim for rich patterns and tapestries since there are many available on the market. Room dividers have a ton of potential when it comes to bringing character and sophistication into any setting, and unfortunately, many of us are not yet aware of this.

3. Layered lighting

A serious list of home design trends should definitely include something about lights, right? Totally! Lighting is a main component of interior design and is amazing at setting the vibe and feeling of a room.

Bright lights? Dim lights? No light? This tells us a lot about the space in question, and if you know how to play with lights, you can easily say that you are almost an interior design master.

Simply turning on the “big light” is a trend; if we can call it that way, that is long gone and for good reasons. We live in the era of layered lighting. This means we need to have more light sources in the same room and learn how to use them appropriately. Well, this is not that hard because you are most probably able just by instinct to use the lights correctly.

Cozy side table lamps or floor lamps that are slowly flooding the room are some of the most popular choices when we talk about this new movement of home design trends. The secret is to use unusual materials because these statement pieces will be the main attraction of the room.

4. Copper details

This is a material that is no stranger to us. After all, we’ve been using copper for millennia, and right now it slowly becomes one of the most expected home design trends. The warm and sunny tone is here to stay, and the best way to take advantage of this is to use copper for small details. This is where its power lies.

Designer Tom Morris of Morrisstudio told us that he loves copper, especially its verdigris patina. He notes that he’s currently using copper worktops in a kitchen project, and this is such an unexpected change compared to the last years when he was a fan of stainless steel.

But you can also use copper details in the bathroom. Sink faucets or a towel rail, the warm brown color will make your space feel more comfortable and welcoming but sophisticated at the same time.

As designers and homeowners continue to explore new ways to incorporate copper into their spaces, we can expect to see this one of the home design trends booming the next year.

5. Biophilic design

This is not a strange word. Or at least not at all. But what this word describes is something beautiful and also one of the most expected home design trends. Biophilic design is all about bringing the outdoors inside. It’s finally the time when we are ready to connect the interiors of our homes with nature.

So, what are we expecting next year? More indoor plants, living green walls, natural materials like stone and wood, and large windows that maximize natural light. These are the main traits that define biophilic design, and it is easy to see why so many people love it and consider it the superior one among all other home design trends.

Nature has always inspired us, and all the natural colors and materials will create the perfect tranquil space. It’s natural to feel attracted by this, so why not give it a try?

6. Curves and waved edges

Clean-cut corners are no longer fashionable. Welcome to the world of curves and waved edges! Yes, this is another one of the new home design trends that you should expect next year, and we are incredibly excited about it.

Curved edges and scalloped shapes are what designers want now, and they told us that this is due to the organic and flowy vibe these shapes give to our spaces. Less rigid than how we are used, this new trend will change the way homes all around the world will look.

Not rigid, but dramatic for sure! This is the motto of this new movement that promises us that our eyes have never seen something more fluid and graceful. The curved arches will slowly guide the eye and take us on a flowy room tour.

Ready for a home of calm, relaxation, and inspiration?

7. Handmade and artisan pieces

You know how they say, “Good things come in small packages”? Well, in the world of interior design, good things come in unique pieces, and we truly believe that this one will be a trend that will last for years to come.

Home design trends were taken by storm by this decision, and now people will start hunting for artisan and handmade pieces in secondhand stores and specialty shops. Mass-produced goods are not great for the planet, and people are growing more and more aware of this.

Get ready to choose unique pieces that, besides the story they have to tell, also help you to contribute to a more ethical and sustainable way of living.
