Feed The Birds

Did you know that mama birds need more calcium in their diets before AND after they lay their eggs? Here’s what you need to do: Sterilize your shells by baking them at 250°F for approximately ten minutes so that the shells are completely dry.

But check on them to make sure they don’t turn brown on the inside. Then crumble them up very well and set them outdoors in a feeder or even on the ground throughout the spring and summer.

Another great option if you have the time is that you can mix the crumbs of an eggshell with birdseed, suet, or mealworms in a bird feeder. Either way, your birds just might thank you by also dining on insect pests that could otherwise damage your beautiful garden.
