Sago Palm
Toxic Properties: Cycasin
Symptoms Include: Vomiting, increased thirst, jaundice, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, bruising, liver damage, liver failure, clotting disorder, and death.
Sago palms originated from the tropical regions of Japan, and they’re popular as indoor plants in their bonsai form. They’re known to have a crown of dense green palm leaves that’s reinforced by a shaggy trunk.
They’re slow-growing plants and usually fairly small, especially the indoor versions. You’ll be surprised to know that they’re highly toxic to humans, not just animals, provoking liver failure and even death if consumed.
And while humans wouldn’t find this indoor plant appetizing, we’re sure Rover might take a swipe at it!
