14 Easy Weekend Projects for Your Home You Can DIY

Let’s talk about the EASY kind of weekend projects you can DIY!

If the home you bought years ago looks dated, and you don’t have the money to hire someone to give it a facelift, you’re in luck. Many easy DIY weekend projects will significantly improve the look of your home and can be completed by an amateur on the weekends.

The most important thing is starting with simple projects and knowing your skill level. First thing’s first, you should have a basic set of tools: hammer, tape measure, utility knife, crescent wrench, and screwdrivers.

You should consider borrowing or renting what you need for projects that require expensive tools you’ll only need once. Several weekend projects don’t even require picking up a hammer.

We recommend a little spring cleaning first to eliminate things you don’t need any longer. Once you eliminate the excess, you’ll have more space to work with. Projects that use space better are usually a good use of your time. But which projects?

You want something you can get done in a couple of days. Something simple, fun, and EASY, but also worthwhile and essential. To help you decide what can or can’t be accomplished in one weekend, here are 14 weekend projects you can finish before Monday.

Weekend Project: Brighten Up Your Kitchen

Dress up an eating area with a new light fixture. Replacing an existing one is your most straightforward option: Turn off the power at your breaker box and simply connect the wires.

Hanging a new fixture is an easy way of changing the room’s overall look, and it’s a weekend project you can do yourself. Just be sure to consider the design and function when choosing your favorite light fixtures for your kitchen.

Weekend Project: Turn A Hall Closet Into A Mudroom

Lots of houses come with hall closets, where people hang their coats. But unfortunately, that doesn’t take care of the shoes, backpacks, sporting equipment, or any other items your family dumps at your entrance.

How ’bout removing those closet doors and adding some hooks and shelves to make a space better suited to your family’s needs?

Weekend Project: Make Your Entrance Look More Inviting

Changing the color on your front door and sprucing up your landscaping can do wonders for your house’s curb appeal and make a lasting impression on passersby. Change your door’s hardware, and add a few potted plants around the entrance.

You should also consider installing outdoor lighting to enhance your home’s architecture and illuminate your walkway. You could even replace your worn-out welcome mat with a bold statement mat to create a welcoming ambiance for your home.

Weekend Project: Reorganize Your Closets

You can buy and install a closet organizing system at a home improvement store. You can even create your own design with some shelving you buy or already have.

Weekend Project: Add A Window Box

Considered to be one of the first living walls, window boxes have been a favorite of gardeners for years. Filled with a rich display of flowers, they can add charm to any window’s exterior.

Not only do they give your windows a nice finish, but think about all the beautiful flowers that you’ll see from inside your home. The great thing is that you can build this popular curb appeal element yourself!

Weekend Project: Get Out That Pressure Washer

This is a given, but you should power wash the exterior of your house, driveway, and walkways to remove any mud, dirt, mold, or any other grimy buildups. You can even rent a pressure washer at your local hardware store if you don’t own one.

Weekend Project: Change The Faucet In Your Kitchen

Bring some elegance into your kitchen with a faucet that ups the ante in looks AND quality. Just ensure that the configuration matches your existing sink, or you might end up replacing that as well.

If you plan on buying a new sink, it’ll be easier to install a faucet or any other hardware on a new sink before it gets put into place. Purchasing a new sink will allow you to customize the number of holes to fit your desired faucet.

Weekend Project: Add Pullouts, Shelves, Or Any Other Organizing Tools Inside Your Kitchen Cabinets

Adding a few pullout drawers may require some skill and tools, but inserting some wire shelves or a lazy Susan for your spices takes no skill and will significantly boost your storage capacity.

Weekend Project: Add Some Wallpaper

Select your ideal self-adhesive wallpaper to create an accent that’s easy to apply, remove, AND reuse. It works just like a giant sticker! Peel the decorative paper off the backing and stick it to a primed and painted wall.

To create a curvy top edge, use your mirror to inspire the outline of your design. Cut the shape from kraft paper and test the look. Tape the pattern on the decorative paper, which you’ve applied to the wall.

Use a craft knife to cut around the template and peel away the paper above the cut.

Weekend Project: Hang Some New Curtains

Another easy way to enhance your home is by hanging some new curtains in your spaces. Pick out a favorite color and pattern. But make sure you go for an extended length.

Design bloggers agree that you should hang your curtains high and wide to improve your windows and let more natural light in. Look for 96in curtains so you can raise them higher than average.

It’s also okay if they “puddle” on the floor. Spend Saturday morning shopping for new curtains, and use the afternoon to hang them up. All in a day’s work!

Weekend Project: Give Your Backyard A Makeover

With cement or flagstone pavers, you can easily make an outdoor patio on the weekend without any mortar. Add potted plants and outdoor seating, like a bistro set or a diverse mix of colorful chairs to create a charming backyard escape.

Even a smallish space can be turned into an outdoor retreat with the proper planning and pieces. Look for the nooks in your yard where you can put a bench and a small side table, and you’ve got yourself a mini patio to enjoy your landscape.

Weekend Project: Paint…Whatever You Want

You can paint your entire house or just the trim. You can even paint an accent wall inside your home. Can’t afford updating your kitchen cabinets? Just paint the old ones! The secret to painting is the prep work.

This includes taping around your windows and cutting in around the ceiling. Remember this when figuring out the time this project will take.

Weekend Project: Patch Up Those Holes In Your Walls

Whether an arranging project went wrong or you’re tired of looking at holes you’ve left around the house, concealing your wall blemishes is a weekend-worthy project.

You can quickly repair nail holes and other minor imperfections using a putty knife and surfacing compound. For larger holes, though, place an adhesive patch over the area and spread an all-purpose drywall compound over it with a trowel.

Depending on the dimensions of the holes, you might need to let the mixture dry overnight. Then, just paint over the patch when it’s dry.

Weekend Project: Replace Your Old Showerhead

You can quickly give a boring bath a spa-like look just by putting in a rain shower head. A bonus? You’ll cut down on your water usage with a more efficient model. But before installing the new head, you’ll need some plumber’s tape to wrap the threads.
