7 Amazing Ways to Turn Your Space Into a Dream Home

July 13, 2022 · Expert Tips
space

How do you make the most out of your space?

Let’s face it: nobody has a dream house, or at least not anyone that I know about. And that’s perfectly fine. Because we can still be grateful for the space we have. I bet that many of us worked for many years to be able to afford our houses. Even if it’s not perfect!

We, as human beings, have always liked to stick our noses where they don’t belong.

Because what our neighbor has may be superior to what we have. But that’s not entirely true!

I will show you some ways to get rid of that comparison and be happy and content with the space and everything you have.

Keep reading to find out more!

1. Focus on what’s good

While you are trying to find everything you dislike regarding your personal space, you might want to focus on the bright side. Because this is the first step towards a difficult journey of learning how to love your home exactly the way it is.

Ask yourself these questions: What is your favorite spot in the house? What would you miss from it if you had to move tomorrow because of unknown circumstances?

Focus on what’s good rather than the things you don’t like about your space.

For example, I love my big bathroom and the garden I worked for so much. They are mine, and I am proud of my house.

Having this mindset will help you refresh your perspective regarding your space, especially in those moments when you complain about it.

Learn to appreciate what you have and be grateful for it.

2. Make a practical list

This may be easier than it sounds because all you have to do is write a list of things that actually bother you regarding your space. What would you change about the living room?

For example, by doing this, you will also have to analyze your budget as well.

You have to take into consideration what you need to buy, what can be replaced, or what actually needs some repairs. But don’t make a wish list.

Take a pen and a piece of paper and be honest with yourself. Ask yourself what my space needs to make me feel cozier?

Don’t forget to be happy with the adjustments you just made. It is totally worth it!

3. Stop comparing

This is the trap that most of us fall into because it’s easier to complain about what you don’t have than about what others do. And this can affect your mental health more than you think.

You don’t need such negativity in your life!

I know that maybe the grass is greener on the other side, but stop staring at your neighbor’s garden.

Focus on what you can do for your personal space instead of comparing.

And social media might be your enemy on this issue. Because people tend to say that they are extremely happy on Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms, but usually, the reality is pretty different.

Not everything you see on social media is true.

4. Once you fell in love with it and it’s time to do it again

You need to take some time to think about what made you fall in love with your home in the first instance. Maybe it was your favorite room, or maybe it was the kitchen because it’s pretty big and you have a nice time cooking there.

Or maybe the backyard! There was a reason you started to love this space when you first saw it.

Do you see yourself as content in this house? If the answer is yes, then you should be more than grateful to have it!

Take a moment to say thank you for the space you have and for all the good memories you’ve created here. And remember, it’s impossible to have a perfect house.

5. Work with what you’ve got

There was a time in the past when I used to pay rent for a small space. And I was so eager to leave that place. My dream was to have a big house with a lot of windows and a bigger space for my bedroom because I tend to spend a lot of time there during the evenings.

When I bought the house I live in today, I was excited to see that even the bathroom was big. And it was basically a dream come true.

When you have your own house, you are able to change things or move the furniture exactly the way you want and when you want. Isn’t that good?

What is your least favorite thing in your home? Think about that. Maybe you can change it.

You can always start with a change of wall colors. I can guarantee that it will change the mood of the whole space.

What if you see your house as a challenge? Can you solve the issue you have with it rather than change it or compare it with another one?

Think about some creative solutions that you can come up with in order to give your space a refresh.

Make a plan and ask your significant other or your family to help you out with everything you need.

You can love your home even if it has imperfections!

6. Don’t linger on what’s wrong

Why don’t you look on the bright side of things? If you are always focusing on the bad stuff, you will end up hating your home space. You don’t need to look around and complain every day about the old furniture or the sink in the kitchen because it can be overwhelming and lead to depression.

In the past few years, because of the COVID pandemic, we have basically been forced to live more indoors than outdoors. For some of us, it was complete torture because we don’t like our houses.

That’s why I try to remind myself that my home is full of things I love, with things that I’ve created with my family.

It doesn’t matter that I need to re-do the walls in the hallway or that the stairs are a bit old and need some reparations.

Everything can be fixed. But what matters the most is that I’ve been living here for the past 15 years, and a lot of things have happened in this space. And I have a memory of everything here, including my son’s marriage.

What I want to say is that the memories themselves count, not where the location where they were made. It doesn’t matter if you are living in a small or big space.

Because we, as human beings, are the ones who create memories, not the surroundings. Remember to focus on the positive because old furniture can always be repaired or replaced!

7. The imperfections don’t really matter

Yep, you heard me well. They don’t really matter because if you don’t like something in your home, you can change it. Give yourself at least five reasons to love your space, and then write them down and read them daily if you need to.

Be grateful for what you have because there are people out there who don’t even have a home!

Forget about the imperfections and focus on the bright side. I really hope, after reading this article, you will find your home to be a place of love and rest.
