13 Amazing Ways to Freshen Up Your Home Without Cleaning It

May 18, 2022 · Expert Tips

When you say “home,” you instantly think about coziness and, in fact, your favorite place to be. And of course, you want it clean. But let’s face it, we don’t have the time every day to do that. “Murphy’s Law” would be extremely happy if a situation happened in which your home looked like a war zone and suddenly some friend showed up. Don’t stress too much about this.

Read our article to find out which are the 13 easiest ways to keep your home fresh and clean.

1. Add a nice scent

You will be surprised at how much of a difference you can make with a scented candle or a reed diffuser. This is a very nice addition to every room in your home. Even in your bathroom! You will feel more energized, and the room will be cozy. Keep in mind that your house doesn’t even have to smell bad to begin with. Because adding a scented candle or essential oil blend is perfect for creating a powerful and comforting space.

And it’s also therapeutic! Try this and tell us how it goes!

2. Straighten the pillows

This task will take a few seconds but will do wonders for the room. All you have to do is fluff them and straighten them in order to make them look a little less messy. Do it on chairs, couches, and beds for a quick refresh. I have a habit of doing this at least twice a day. You know, to look good in case some friends decide to show up.

3. Hang towels

Don’t neglect the bathroom! We know it, especially if it’s a small space, but if you want it to look larger and nicer, hanging the towels might be the best option. Plus, if you make sure the edges line up and anything hung on a rung is centered, everything will look much tidier. If there are more than two members of the family, there will definitely be a lot of towels as well. So make sure they’re all hung the same way.

Straighten the bath mats and everything will look perfect!

How often do you pay attention to the look of your bathroom?

4. Do something with the dishes

Always put the dishes in the sink or dishwasher. This will make your kitchen look clean and less messy. If you had some guests until they left, you could hide them in the oven. They don’t have to know the truth! This will help you improve the overall look until you have the time to wash them. I think this hack is very useful and I will try it next time I have my home full of guests.

5. Arrange chairs around tables

Like with every other piece of furniture in the room, arranging the chairs around the table will give the impression of a bigger space. Try to arrange them at an equal distance apart. If the table is the first thing the guests will see, then you have to make sure it will look amazing.

You know that the first impression matters! Have a jaw-dropping effect whenever they come to see you.

They might ask you if you buy something new every time they come over. Neat, right?

6. Clear away clutter

Time is our enemy, that’s for sure, especially when it comes to cleaning. If you don’t have time to actually sort through the clutter, you might want to try to stack things by size in order to give a sense of organization around you. Anything that is all over the place can go in a basket to be sorted later. And if you really have the time to do it, then try to stack the stuff from every room in different baskets.

This will make your life easier and you will have them in order, at least until you properly clean the house.

7. Dust strategically

Start with big surfaces, those which are “in your face” and easily noticeable for guests too! Places like tabletops, fireplaces, and your TV in case you are planning to spend a lot of time in front of it, especially if it’s a movie night. At the same time, your guests will be astounded. “What a clean home!”

8. Add fizzing toilet bombs

You’re in a hurry. I get it! And even if the towels were in order and very nicely hung on the wall, the toilet remained a bit neglected. The fizzing toilet bombs are the ideal solution, especially if you’re planning on cleaning it faster. It’s basically a bath bomb but for the porcelain throne.

The results will be awesome. And this hack is time-saving too. You have to give it a try.

9. Corral items on surfaces

Clutter with functional storage bins will actually transform the pile of stuff all over the house into stylish decor. They can be found in various colors and are extremely versatile. They’re going to last a long time! They’ll hold a good amount of weight, and they will look great. What a nice addition to your living room.

I wish I knew about these hacks before! My life would have been much easier, especially in those times when I had so many unannounced guests!

10. Spritz your pillows and couches

A fabric freshener will do the wonders for these items. Because if it smells clean, people will think your home is clean, right? It can also be used in the bathroom or on the kitchen pillows. I always have a spray like this to freshen up the air in my bedroom, right after I wake up and I open the window.

It leaves my room smelling so beautiful, so I wish I could stay in there the rest of the day! Don’t forget to add a spray like this to your cart next time you go shopping.

11. Get Rid of Pet Hair

If you are a pet owner, you have to deal with hair every day. But that doesn’t mean your guests need to sit on a pile of fur. If you are in a hurry and you don’t have the proper time to clean all the hair, just flip the sofa and the chair cushions over. Put a nice blanket over the sofa, and it will look like new.

If you do have the time to clean it as it should be, use a vacuum or a rubber glove to get rid of the pet hair.

Do you have a pet? How often do you clean up after it? Does your home look clean?

12. Lighten the Mood

If it’s still daylight, you can open the windows for a brighter space. If it’s nighttime and you’re in for a movie, turn off overhead lights or just add some candles (if they are scented, it’s better). A lamp can also do the trick!

Low light hides imperfections very well, plus the environment will be much cozier.

13. Last-Minute Trick: Wheel Out the Vacuum

This may sound odd, but it will do the trick! When guests drop by unannounced, just leave the vacuum in the middle of the house and say, “Oops! You caught me in the middle of the cleaning. Sorry! ” Any mess will be excused. Funny, right? I would totally try this. Especially for those nosy relatives who don’t call before coming over.
