Those scented candles!
No one thinks about the scented candles or the fragrance sticks beyond their intended usage, and they are great to have around in the living room if you have a dedicated spot for them. Not only will they bring you the desired fragrance, but they also help when it comes to ambiance and decorations! However, is that all there is to them, and how can they be dirty?
Depending on the type of candle you are using, not only are you not cleaning them as often as you would need to, but you are also exposing yourself to unnecessary harm. Think about it this way!
Most candles are made with paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum; when you burn these types of candles, you are releasing chemicals into the air that aren’t good for your lungs and can cause issues in the long term. This is in addition to the fact that some are heavily scented with oils; they can also leave soot around them and, over time, attract dirt to the outside of the candle.
We aren’t saying to give up your candles; far from that. But we suggest you switch out any paraffin candles for beeswax or soy ones, and that you stay away from heavy-scented candles and those that have metal or wire wicks! Also, when you dust, wipe your candles as well.
