Oleander
Toxic Properties: Cardiac glycosides
Symptoms Include: All the parts of this plant contain toxic cardiac glycosides like digoxin. Its ingestion can cause diarrhea (possibly bloody), colic, difficulty with coordination, sweating, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing muscle tremors, and it can even be fatal due to heart failure.
This indoor plant, that’s well-known for its pink or white flowers and extended height, providing privacy between properties, is another toxic dog plant.
In severe cases, it causes liver failure and can lead to death by ultimately interfering with the heart’s ability to beat correctly. If you know that your dog ate these poisonous leaves, take them to a veterinary hospital where vomiting can be induced ASAP.
Supportive therapy with medications designed to maintain gastrointestinal signs and reverse liver and heart issues is critical to survival.
