4. Not Insulating Your Attic
Whether you have things stored in your attic or not, you must ensure the space isn’t causing any problems for your house. According to the government-approved website Energy Star, it isn’t uncommon to feel drafts in your house during the winter. In most cases, the cause may be either an uninsulated attic or an uninsulated basement.
If you live in an area where the winters are mild, an uninsulated attic may be to blame for the cold air from your air conditioner escaping outdoors. Your attic can sustain major weather damage, such as burst pipes, resulting in numerous other damages to your house and, of course, a large repair bill if neglected and left to the elements.
Insulating your attic can be a DIY project, as long as you’re careful not to cover the soffit vents with roll-out insulation.
