Landscaping Mistake: Weeding out your garden too aggressively

Weeds are simply a part of life in every garden or yard. But pros think that it’s vital to remove them correctly.

One landscape designer we spoke to recommends the technique of grazing with your hands, focusing primarily on banishing aggressive perennial weeds like Canada thistle and field bindweed that could threaten your garden’s health.

While you remove as much of the weed and its root system as possible, make sure you take special care to leave the surrounding soil undisturbed to prevent other seeds of weeds from germinating. Aggressive weeding can backfire on you.

Landscaping Mistake: Adding features that are too big

You may be tempted to add many different features to your landscaping design. But make sure you don’t overdo it. A water fountain makes a lovely centerpiece for a yard. But if it is too big, the space will look overcrowded and smaller.

The same goes for trees and plants. Make sure you learn how big the plants will get before you add them to your landscaping design. Otherwise, you may find that the plants will take over your entire strategy.

Make many measurements for a well-balanced landscape design and research the elements you plan to bring in. This will save you from having spatial problems in your yard.
