Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Transforming your home with new interior paint ideas is a significant investment of your time and money. Protecting that investment requires proper maintenance. Fresh paint looks tough, but it remains vulnerable during the initial curing phase.

While latex paint feels dry to the touch within a few hours, it takes up to 30 days to fully cure and harden. During this first month, avoid scrubbing the walls, leaning heavy furniture against them, or applying adhesive hooks. Treat the walls delicately to prevent peeling and permanent indentations.

Once the paint fully cures, regular maintenance keeps the color looking vibrant. Dust your walls every few months using a microfiber cloth attached to a flat floor mop. Removing surface dust prevents dullness and keeps your warm whites and soft greiges looking bright.

When scuffs or fingerprints appear, tackle them immediately. Never use abrasive sponges or harsh chemical cleaners, as these will burnish the paint, leaving a shiny, obvious patch on the wall. Instead, mix a few drops of mild dish soap into a bucket of warm water. Dip a soft sponge into the solution, wring it out until it is merely damp, and gently wipe the smudge. Dry the area immediately with a clean, soft towel.

To combat fading from ultraviolet light, utilize window treatments. Direct, intense sunlight bleaches paint pigments over time. Drawing the blinds or curtains during the brightest parts of the afternoon significantly extends the lifespan of your chosen color palette. Keep a small, airtight jar of your leftover paint stored in a climate-controlled area for future touch-ups. Label the jar with the brand, color name, and the room it belongs to so you never have to guess when a minor scratch needs fixing.
