Alocasia

Toxic Properties: Insoluble calcium oxalates

Symptoms Include: Intense burning, mucous membrane irritation, and irritation of the lips and tongue. Excessive drooling, vomiting, and difficulty in swallowing.

Alocasia is a type of flowering perennial, native to tropical and subtropical Australia and Asia. They can be irritable houseplants that need adequate water, light, and humidity. But their stunning leaves make them popular regardless.

Unfortunately, even though it’s beautiful, this indoor plant has calcium oxalate crystals, making it toxic to dogs, cats, and even humans. If ingested, it can cause oral irritation, burning of the lips and mouth, vomiting, swelling, and difficulty eating and breathing.
