Olive

If you happen to live in a reasonably warm region, low-maintenance landscaping doesn’t get much easier than owning an elegant olive tree. They’re slow growing with pretty silvery, sage-colored foliage. There are a few basic care tips you should be aware of, though.

If you wish to grow an olive tree in a simple planter, it’ll need to be watered weekly in the hot, dry periods months of summer. And it would also be a good idea to give it feed in the springtime with a granular fertilizer.

If temperatures drop to below 10˚F for longer periods of time where you live, the tree will need to be over-wintered somewhere inside. A garage will do just great.

But if you plant it in your garden, then when temperatures are likely to drop to below 14˚F, throwing a horticultural fleece coat over it should be enough to keep it from getting any damage from frost.

…What do you think of this low-maintenance landscaping idea?
