Where to Plant Privacy Trees or Plants

Now that we’ve discussed WHICH outdoor plants you should get, let’s talk about WHERE to put them! The most important aspect to consider is where to plant your privacy trees or shrubs. While it might be obvious in some cases, a careful inspection won’t hurt.

You might have the right to plant on your property line, but keep in mind that some outdoor plants grow, and other plant extensions such as branches and roots can travel where they aren’t wanted. Before planting privacy plants for your fence line, keep in mind:

  • Note that some plant extensions may extend to your neighbor’s yard.
  • They might overcrowd sidewalks.
  • They can crawl into sewer systems.
  • Just be sure to check all aspects before deciding where to place your trees or shrubs.

And if you found our list of privacy outdoor plants helpful, we’ve got another great one for you: 8 Biggest Decorating Mistakes You’re Making Without Realizing It

As a lifetime gardener with an acre of gardens, I still do have one neighbor who is nasty. He’s upwind, and sends me weed seeds from his riverbank he rarely tends to. Screens would be nice to keep out the seeds, if they could.
You do not list zones. You do not always list normal heights. You do not always list sun/pt shade/shade. That pic of ‘jack frost privet’ shows not white margins. Bamboo is not invasive? HA!! Seen it before, especially in warmer zones. I realize you had only so much room, but straightforward listing of the important stuff is so much more helpful than amusing literature.

    Thanks!!

Privet is dangerous to horses. Bamboo is extremely invasive. What about fig trees or magnolias?
