5. Choose lighter colors

Choosing tiles in a light neutral palette is a simple yet wonderful design trick to kind of make the walls disappear into the background and boost the sense of space. Berrick Wagstaff of Ceramica Senio advises keeping the majority of the floor and walls neutral so the tiles are not too overwhelming. This will help you make the most of a small bathroom, making it look bigger.

He also pointed out that stone never gets old and that one of the latest looks is ceramic tile. They look like timber, which is perfect for floors.

If you want a splash of color, introduce it with feature tiles set within an alcove in the shower or as a splashback. Larger format rectangular tiles—either 12×24 inches or 16×32 inches—are a great choice to boost the sense of scale.

Laid in a brick pattern, they will make the room look bigger, while they will give the illusion of more height if placed vertically.
