Your newly painted walls require strategic care to maintain their rich, accurate hues. Never wash a freshly painted wall immediately after completing your project. Modern interior latex paints feel dry to the touch within a few hours, but they require a full 30 days to cure completely. Washing the walls before the paint fully hardens will strip the finish and leave permanent, unsightly streaks.

Once the paint cures, commit to a gentle, seasonal cleaning routine. Dust your walls monthly using a microfiber cloth attached to a long-handled sweeper. When you need to remove smudges or muddy fingerprints, skip the harsh chemical degreasers. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap into a bucket of warm water. Dip a soft, non-abrasive sponge into the solution, wring it out until it is barely damp, and gently wipe the affected area in a circular motion.

Always prepare for eventual touch-ups. Transfer a small amount of leftover paint from your bulky gallon cans into airtight glass mason jars. Label the top of each jar with the specific room, the Pantone palette name, and the exact date of application. Storing paint in small, airtight containers prevents the liquid from drying out and rusting, ensuring you have perfectly matched paint ready for quick repairs years down the road.
