10 Frame Combinations That Transform Blank Walls

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Protecting your newly styled wall requires minimal but consistent effort. Proper upkeep ensures your frames remain perfectly level, your artwork resists fading, and your painted drywall stays pristine year after year.

Establish a weekly routine of lightly dusting your frames with a dry microfiber cloth. Avoid spraying glass cleaners directly onto the frame glass; the liquid can easily seep under the frame edges and permanently stain your paper mats or ruin the artwork. Instead, spray your cleaner onto the cloth first, then gently wipe the glass.

Monitor the humidity and temperature in the room. You want to maintain an indoor humidity level between 40 and 50 percent. Excessive moisture causes paper art to warp and ripple inside the frame, while extreme dryness can crack delicate wooden frame joints. If you hang your gallery wall in direct sunlight, consider upgrading your frames to UV-protective museum glass. This specialty glass blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, preventing your vibrant photographs and valuable prints from fading into dull, washed-out tones over the years. Finally, check your wall bumpers and hanging wires annually, tightening any screws that may have vibrated loose from heavy foot traffic or slamming doors.
