4. Pothos

Pothos are wildly popular indoor plants. You can grow them as hanging plants or train them to climb. You can trim them to make them compact and bushy. They are satisfying plants to keep because they grow pretty quickly, which means it only takes a few years to have a pothos with its long tendrils hanging from your windowsill.

They are easy to care for, and there are many different varieties, each more lovely than the last. But that’s not all; pothos plants are also easy to propagate, and they’re probably one of the most commonly traded indoor plant cuttings.

They do best when rooted in water, but you can propagate them in soil too. In order to do that, you need to cut a stem right below a leaf node, which is the section where the leaf meets the stem. Often, tiny nodes can be seen starting to grow in these sections.

Make sure your stem cutting measures at least 4″ in length. Also, before placing your cutting in water, you should remove the lower leaves from it. In a few weeks, your Pothos plant will begin to propagate, putting out roots that are ready for planting.
