Do you have small rooms, and your space looks a tad crowded? These rugs will make them feel bigger!

One of the most crucial aspects of everyday life is keeping the place you live organized. You have a lot of options for organizing your area, and using the right type of rug is one of the most underestimated.

Rugs can create the illusion of space in compact areas like apartments by drawing attention downward and away from the walls. They may also give a space personality since they are available in a variety of patterns and forms.

Depending on the size of the space and what you want to have as the main focus, you may choose the ideal design for your room. With complementary elements and the rug’s pattern, you may furnish a pleasant area.

You don’t need to break both your walls and your wallet to have the living space you’ll be dreaming of! Following these tips for rugs, you can make small rooms appear wider and fancier. Curious about what we are talking about? Continue reading.

Cool-colored rugs can open up your space

Despite all the myths that have been going around, dark colors cannot make your small rooms even smaller! Besides adding an extra touch of elegance, they won’t do any harm. Let’s see what experts have to say regarding this.

When choosing a rug for the layout of your tiny space, take your décor and style into account. Any rug will work as long as it matches the furniture. For instance, you wouldn’t want to place a fluffy rug on top of your dining table in a compact space.

A cool-toned rug would blend in with your room’s decor and bring cool tones throughout. But pick black carpeting if your furniture is white.

You may also use this to balance the color of your pillows and bedding in your bedroom. Area rugs in cool colors work well in tiny spaces without making them look smaller.

Tip: Try to pick a rug that won’t cover the entire floor. Otherwise, you might get the opposite effect: a crowded space! Stick to rugs that aren’t larger than one foot.

Pick rugs with funky patterns

If you want to make your small rooms pop and change their mood focus on choosing one or two rugs depending on how big the space is, with unique patterns.

Experts recommend this because a playful design can elongate a little room in the blink of an eye. To make the various colors in space stand out more, using distinctive patterns may help bring out their greatest qualities.

Patterns may be lines, circles, flowers, or even birds. This depends solely on how your rooms are decorated. If the ambiance is minimalist, you can pick a rug with some circles to move the focus on the floor. A good idea might also be to match the rug with the color of your walls.

Use a decorative rug as a focal point of the room

Experts say that because not many people like to have decorative vases, paintings, or other stuff in their small rooms because they’re afraid of making them crowded, so using a decorative rug as the focal point of the room is a great idea.

It’s not necessary to place the rug under the coffee table or in front of the couch. You have the freedom to put it anywhere you want. Use your imagination and make your small rooms look like you’re living in a palace. Furthermore, this allows you to add your personality to the space. Dare to be bold, and why not go for a, let’s say, red rug when the rest of your room is light brown or white?

Combine lines and stripes

A great way to add some color to any area is by using stripes. A striped rug may provide a splash of color to your living room or bedroom. The ideal rug enhances your décor in any space since it is neutral with a splash of color.

Although stripes can be used in a variety of ways, make sure that the quantity and color of the stripes remain consistent. Avoid using colors that shrink as they expand broader by sticking to a single tone.

This draws your attention away from the walls and highlights the stripes, giving the impression of more space. Area rugs with stripes are ideal for small rooms.

Do you need a few choices for rug models? We got you covered. On Amazon, you can find a plethora of options in every color and shape: blue/white stripes, green stripes, black and white, or khaki and white. Right now they have them on sale, and they cost $25.49.

Layer them up!

If we told you that jute rugs truly make a fantastic improvement to your space, how would you react? Earthy colors and jute rugs are great because they allow you to incorporate any rug into your interior style.

For example, if you have a brown carpet, nobody is stopping you from adding a tiny round jute one on top of it. It’s possible to create a pleasant, rustic atmosphere.

Are you against black? Choose a hue that goes well with the items in your small apartment.

Monochromatic rugs are back in style

Picking a monochromatic rug to use as a focal point of the room will bring an outstanding change to your space. Going for a nice hue—a different shade from what you already have in the room—might visually expand the room in seconds.

And before saying, “They’ll probably make me want to buy a trendy color like fuchsia or something,” experts say that you don’t have to go straight to red or orange; you can also opt for a neutral and simple color. What matters is to arrange and re-arrange things matching your preferences, not following any trends that come and go as the year passes.

Go for a rug with a modern style

A nice and modern rug will give the impression that a tiny space is larger and more opulent. To fit your mood and furniture, you can select from a wide range of colors and styles. Select carpets with monochromatic hues or straightforward patterns. Additionally, as they are more aesthetically pleasing and easier on the eyes, you ought to choose carpets with some texture.

The one from the picture, for example, complements the decorative pillows from the couch without overwhelming the room. A coffee table on top of it and voila! Nice, chic, and simple.

Bottom line:

Most of the time, small living spaces can feel unwelcoming and cluttered, and even if we want to have a bigger house, sometimes it’s not exactly possible. However, this shouldn’t stop you from turning your small home into a haven, a place where you feel safe and relaxed after a long day.

With these lines in mind, I am sure you will know what rug to choose according to your style, furniture, and mood. Good luck shopping!
