Does Your Bedroom Need a Do-Over?

Every single person spends around 1/3 of their lives (minimum) in their bedrooms, which is exactly why we should prioritize decorating them as we please. After all, you’ve probably experienced this feeling when you went into a hotel and thought to yourself: “Wow, how did they even do this?”

Well, what if we’d tell you that you can feel this way all the time when you’re walking into your own bedroom? Today, we’re presenting a smart guide on the frequent mistakes that might pop up when it comes to bedroom decor. Trust me, you will be more than pleased to have stumbled upon this!

Magenta, red, white colors

Colors can have a great influence on the mood and behavior of many people. And when it’s the right color, it’s easier to convince us to buy anything, but also to make us feel safer, or even more nervous. That’s why we truly believe that the colors in our bedrooms dictate our moods, too.

Muted colors help us relax and unwind. When you have to decide between matte and shiny colors, it’s much better to choose the former one. It is also believed that the best color for the bedroom is muted blue, closely followed by green, pale yellow, and even silver. Probably the worst choices you could make include magenta, red, and white colors.

Too many pillows

Small pillows on the couch or bed make us feel quite cozy when in reality, they bring a lot of trouble. I mean, come to think about it, every time you have to go to bed, you also need to collect all the pillows, put them somewhere, and in the morning, arrange them nicely all over again.

It’s a lot of work. For proper sleep, you only need one good pillow, so you should strive to get rid of the rest. If you want extra pillows, this also means that yours is wrong and probably not high enough for you.

Laundry basket

Every time you notice a pile of dirty laundry, your brain automatically takes it as a task that needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Considering all this, it would be quite difficult for you to relax. Secondly, dirty laundry might have a bad smell, which is definitely a mood killer.

Old mattress

The majority of people don’t even know that their mattresses have their own expiration period, and it’s usually 8–10 years. Many people still sleep on 30- to 40-year-old mattresses. However, there’s one problem: an old mattress can also cause a lot of trouble with your back. You might be sore and feel tired in the morning. Besides, if you don’t clean your mattress regularly, it will be loaded with dust mites. The older the mattress, the more insects there are that live inside it.

Bright lamp and chandelier

Probably one of the worst ideas is a chandelier right above the bed. The light might shine right into your eyes and make it harder for you to relax. It can also turn out to be quite uncomfortable, especially when it comes to lying in bed.

TV

Most of us have TVs in our bedrooms, and this allows us to binge-watch our favorite movies and series before we even go to sleep. However, a TV that has been left on throughout the night is a terrible influence on your sleep. It prevents your body from sleeping as you should. If you can’t move your TV to a different room, you shouldn’t use it late at night.

Light curtains

The best option for the bedroom is heavy curtains that totally cover the windows. Moreover, light and thin curtains let the light through, so it might be a bit too difficult to sleep, especially if you love taking naps. It’s also very important not to forget about the position of the curtains. After all, the higher they are, the better. Otherwise, the walls might look way too low.

Wrong carpet placement

Designers have this one important rule: big carpets should be placed right under the bed. The whole idea is that when you get up, you step on the carpet, not the cold floor. This is bound to give you a nice sensation in the morning and even set the tone for the day.

Bed sheets made of thick fabrics

If you don’t want to break the bank, well, don’t buy super thick fabrics. If you see a set of sheets with 1,000 or more TC (which is thread count – the universal criteria for how thick the fabric is), this is honestly as good as it gets. There’s really no need to pay more. It’s also top quality, no matter how different might be the opinion of different manufacturers.

Embroidered pillowcases

Embroidery is all and pretty, and it makes the entire place a bit cozier. However, its texture is oftentimes not that smooth, which might make it harder for you to sleep. Also, in the morning, you are inclined to wake up with a pattern on your face, which is not that nice.

Identical design

When the furniture is bought at one store, from the same manufacturer, and also has the same design, this means that the owner has bad taste.

Low bed

Here’s another secret rule: the higher the bed, the more confident you’ll feel. Besides, if the bed is too low, there won’t be enough space to store things under it. The space can be used for a bunch of drawers with the sheets.

No headrest on the bed

Designers say that beds without headrests are quite the same as windows without frames. The bedroom looks quite unfinished.

Blankets that reach the floor

An oversized blanket doesn’t make the room spicier. It’s quite the opposite: it makes the room seem messier. Besides, it’s not that pleasant to use a blanket that’s been lying on the floor, and we can all agree on that. You could make the look more interesting if you’d only use some color. If the walls have a solid color, the sheets should have some kind of pattern on them. Vice versa, if the walls have patterns on them, then the bedsheets should also be solid.

Now, among the things you should add to your bedroom to have a better time, we highly recommend you try this beautiful sunrise alarm clock. It costs a bit, but it’s so worth it! First of all, it makes great simple much more accessible, you will sleep deeper, and wake up in a gentler way.

What I really like about it is that it can shift the darkness level in the room, depending on your needs and preferences. On top of that, it also has a series of soothing sleep sounds, which are high-quality nature sounds that will ease your way into the land of dreams.
