5. Opossum

Opossums are the only marsupials in our country, but most people don’t cherish them as they should. These animals that may invade your backyard have somehow gained a bad reputation. While we think they are lovely creatures, not everyone will agree with this description.

Opossums can be found all across the US. Similar to raccoons, these animals are all about eating food that’s left outside for pets. However, unlike their bandit counterparts, opossums won’t dig up the yard or tip over your garbage.

There’s no need to run and scream when you see an opossum chilling on your back porch. Chances are that this nocturnal animal is more scared of you than you are of them. Moreover, unlike other animals that may invade your backyard, opossums can actually help your garden.

According to the Humane Society of the US, opossums typically eat insects, slugs, snails, and even small rodents. This is basically a free and natural way to keep your garden pest-free.

Remember that these creatures aren’t there to cause you any harm. They also don’t want to be played with. The best way to deal with these intruders is to leave them alone. They will be gone in a short time anyway!
