5. Valerian

Valerian is a perennial herb that blooms in the summer with white, pink, or red flowers. It’s very popular among herbalists for treating insomnia, overexcitability, and anxiety. Plus, its roots are also used as an ingredient in mild sedatives.

When flowering, this low-maintenance plant emits a calming fragrance that induces sleep. According to this study, inhaling the scent of a valerian flower helps you fall asleep and have a good night’s sleep. If you have trouble falling asleep and you’re in need of some color in your bedroom, then valerian is the best for you!

It needs at least six hours of sunlight exposure per day. It’s a great choice if your bedroom has a large window!
