7 Best Natural Weed Killers You Should Try (and 1 to Avoid)

#6 Corn gluten meal

This one is a discovery made by a doctor from Iowa State University. Corn gluten meal is a byproduct that remains after corn milling, which you can find at hardware stores and online, and it actually works well against allowing seeds to grow. It is actually a natural herbicide that is 100% organic, so if you have been looking for something like this, it doesn’t get any better than a corn gluten meal.

The trick with it is that it can be a little finicky to use. You have to time your application perfectly, as you have to spread it around the garden in the spring before the plants even start to sprout. What’s more, while it is efficient, it will take you a few years before it reaches its true potential and you get rid of weeds completely, so you have to be persistent.

Despite this, if you want an easy-to-use organic herbicide that’s been known to work great (it’s been used for lawn control for a few years), you can add it to the parts of your yard that need some help. Just be careful not to add it to any flower beds or places you plan to sow seeds because it will also prevent those from growing.
