9 Wall Features That Add Instant Character

A quick wipe and occasional touch-up paint will keep your decorative wall features looking brand new.

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Preserving the crisp, high-quality appearance of your home wall upgrades requires consistent, low-effort maintenance. Flat, matte paint finishes trap dust and show oily fingerprints easily; always finish dimensional millwork and accent wall features in a satin or semi-gloss sheen. The slightly glossy surface repels dirt and allows you to wipe away scuffs with a damp microfiber cloth and a drop of mild dish soap.

Wood naturally expands and contracts as your interior humidity levels fluctuate throughout the seasons. During the dry winter months, you might notice hairline cracks developing along the caulked seams where your wood trim meets the drywall. Do not panic; this represents normal structural movement. Simply slice away the cracked caulk with a utility knife, apply a fresh, thin bead of highly flexible acrylic latex caulk, and touch up the paint. Finally, keep a designated microfiber duster with an extendable handle nearby; running it quickly along the top ledges of your wainscoting or the gaps in your slat wall every two weeks prevents heavy dust buildup from ruining your sharp aesthetic.
