8 Affordable Ways to Upgrade Your Kitchen

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Protecting the time and money you invested in your kitchen makeover requires consistent, gentle upkeep. Painted cabinets cure over several weeks, meaning they are highly susceptible to chipping immediately after application. Treat them delicately during the first month. Once fully cured, clean your painted woodwork strictly with a mixture of warm water and mild dish soap; harsh chemical abrasives or rough scrubbing sponges will aggressively strip the protective enamel finish.

Maintain your new plumbing fixtures by periodically wiping them down with a soft microfiber cloth to prevent hard water spots from etching the metal finish. If mineral deposits build up around the aerator of your new faucet, tie a small plastic bag filled with white vinegar around the spout and let it soak overnight to dissolve the scale. Inspect the plumbing connections beneath your sink every few months; catching a tiny drip early prevents catastrophic water damage to your cabinetry. Finally, wipe down your tile backsplash weekly to prevent cooking grease from permanently staining the porous grout lines.
