Executing an accessible kitchen upgrade requires precision and the right equipment. To help you tackle this project, gather the following supplies before you begin. Prices and quantities will vary based on the size of your kitchen, but these estimates provide a solid baseline for a standard home improvement budget.

Power Drill and Impact Driver: You need a reliable 18-volt drill to mount heavy-duty hardware and drive screws into solid cabinet stiles. An impact driver provides extra torque for driving thick fasteners into wall studs without stripping the screw heads.

Pull-Down Shelving Systems: Expect to invest between $150 and $300 per upper cabinet. Select units equipped with gas-assisted pistons; these mechanisms ensure a smooth, controlled motion when you pull heavy plates downward and push them back into place.

Under-Cabinet LED Lighting Kits: Budget approximately $40 to $80 per linear foot for high-quality, hardwired LED strips. Choose fixtures that offer a color temperature of 3000K to 4000K, which provides bright, clear illumination without creating a harsh, clinical atmosphere.

D-Shaped Cabinet Pulls: Plan to purchase enough handles for every cabinet door and drawer, costing roughly $5 to $15 each. These pulls allow you to hook your hand through the hardware, making them significantly easier to operate than round knobs if you develop arthritis.

Basic Hand Tools and Safety Gear: Keep a reliable tape measure, a torpedo level, wire strippers, an electrical voltage tester, and safety goggles on hand. You will also want a stud finder to locate structural support behind your drywall.

Proper preparation dictates the success of your kitchen remodeling project. Begin by locating your main electrical panel and shutting off the breaker that supplies power to your kitchen receptacles and lighting circuits. Verify the power is entirely disconnected using your voltage tester. Next, empty all your upper cabinets. Removing your heavy dishware, glasses, and dry goods gives you unobstructed access to the cabinet frames and protects your items from falling debris or drywall dust.
