FAQ

How do I know if my door hardware is solid brass or just plated?

Place a small household magnet against your door handle. Solid brass is entirely non-magnetic, so the magnet will fall off immediately. If the magnet sticks firmly, your hardware is made of steel or zinc with a very thin brass plating. You must not use harsh abrasive polishes on plated hardware, as you will quickly scrub through the finish and expose the silver metal underneath; stick to mild soap and water for plated fixtures.

What is the most welcoming color temperature for interior lighting?

Lighting experts and the Department of Energy recognize 2700K to 3000K as the ideal spectrum for residential living spaces. This warm-white range mimics natural sunset light, which psychologically relaxes guests and makes skin tones appear healthier. Save the ultra-bright 4000K or 5000K daylight bulbs for utility rooms, garages, or highly detailed task areas where harsh clarity is required.

Can I paint over ugly bathroom caulk to make it look clean?

No, you must never paint over silicone caulk. Paint simply beads up and flakes off the waterproof surface of pure silicone. Even if you use a “paintable” acrylic latex caulk, standard wall paint cannot withstand the heavy moisture and constant expansion of a shower or sink joint. The only permanent, sanitary solution is removing the old material entirely and applying a fresh, brightly colored bead of new silicone.

How do I permanently fix a cabinet knob that keeps spinning?

A spinning knob usually indicates that the screw head has dug into the soft wood on the back of the cabinet door, preventing it from tightening properly. Remove the screw and place a small metal washer between the screw head and the interior wood face. This distributes the pressure and allows you to lock the knob securely into place. If the screw threads are damaged, apply a single drop of blue thread-locking fluid before tightening.
