ZZ Plant

Toxic Properties: Insoluble calcium oxalates

Symptoms Include: Mucous membrane irritation, intense burning, extreme amounts of drooling, and irritation of the mouth, lips, and tongue.

ZZ plants have burst with popularity over the last couple of years, thanks in part to the attribute that they can endure in almost complete darkness, which is why they make excellent low-light plants.

They’re grown from rhizomes, which means that they relish infrequent watering, making them an all-around low-maintenance indoor plant.

Sadly, if ingested, ZZ plants are toxic to cats and dogs and can generate symptoms typical of calcium oxalate poisonings, like vomiting and diarrhea.
