9 Luxury Home Features That Were Once Considered Weird

A clean infographic with icons representing maintenance tasks for luxury home features.
This infographic highlights maintenance and long-term care for luxury features like bidets, closets, dimmers, and floors.

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Luxury upgrades demand consistent, specific maintenance to protect your financial investment and ensure daily reliability.

Smart bidet toilets require specialized cleaning. Never use harsh abrasive chemicals or bleach on the plastic seat, as this will quickly degrade the material and yellow the finish. Instead, use a mild, pH-neutral soap and a soft microfiber cloth. Every six months, locate the bidet’s integrated mesh water filter and clean out any hard water sediment to maintain optimal water pressure. If you live in an area with hard water, consider running a specific descaling solution through the system annually to keep the internal heating elements functioning efficiently.

Your custom closet system requires seasonal attention. Wood laminates can attract heavy dust, so wipe down the shelves with an anti-static spray every few months. Periodically check the mounting screws on your hanging rods, tightening them as needed, especially after transitioning out heavy winter coats.

Smart lighting switches generally operate maintenance-free physically, but they do require digital upkeep. Check your smartphone application quarterly for firmware updates. Keeping the software up to date ensures your switches remain responsive, secure against digital vulnerabilities, and compatible with the latest voice-assistant features.
