9 Awful Kitchen Decorating Trends Designers Can’t Wait to Leave Behind in 2022

4. Floating shelves

After 2022 is completely gone, you should definitely be able to say goodbye to your floating shelves too. Too much symmetry will “hurt” the eyes of the beholder, designers might say. Despite the fact that floating shelves are pretty useful, especially in a small space, they are a no-no for next year’s trends.

Visually, they can create a bit of clutter, plus if you also have a large stainless steel hood, it will look even worse. Instead of a lined-up space, try to create a bit of asymmetry by switching from floating shelves to tiny cabinets, or if you’re really a fan of floating shelves for various reasons and you want to keep them on the walls, move them to another wall.

Dare to change the look of your kitchen with just a small detail! And if the space allows it, add some cute plants near your tea mugs on the shelves. It will complete the overall look, and it will also look pretty!

Oh, really? What will you replace this with? Or will you just have bottled gas stoves and ovens send out all kinds of deadly fumes?

Thanks for these tips. Considering opening the kitchen into our TV room somehow or with a “Bar” peninsula in between but appreciate the thoughts on the kitchen smells. Also I put white/gray subway tile surround in our new 7 foot tub master bath and shower and love it and the kitchen remodel is next….I see the subway tiles as kitchen backsplashes in a lot of my HOME magazines…curious to think that will look dated! 🙂 Thanks again!
