16 Ways to Make Your House Feel More Expensive

Use a neutral base.

Another terrific way to make sure you go for that expensive look is to choose large and bold pieces in a neutral shade. I’m talking white, off-white, cream, taupe, beige, and even grey. Many high-end spaces might use neutral furniture and then add accessories and textiles for additional patterns and colors.

This might even save you more money in the long run, as it’s much more cost-effective to change throw pillows, blankets, prints, and even rugs rather than buying new sofas and furniture every couple of years. Also, if you are stuck with an ugly or outdated sofa, there are some options. You can either get it reupholstered, get a slipcover, or try to cover it with solid blankets and throws.

Maximize the space and light.

If you want to increase the square footage of your home while upgrading it, you can always get yourself a mirror. Naturally, the increased space might be nothing but an optical illusion, but hanging a mirror could ultimately make a room feel not only bigger but also brighter.

The ideal option is to hang your mirror across from or closer to a window, so you can bounce as much light around as possible. Also, in general, I’d highly recommend going as large as you can with your mirrors. Full, lengthy mirrors that you can easily adjust against the wall are perfect. Some of them might be cheaper than you thought!
