Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Proper upkeep ensures your hard work stands the test of time. Routine maintenance requires minimal effort but significantly extends the lifespan of your custom creations. Keep indoor wooden furniture away from direct, prolonged sunlight and heating vents; extreme temperature fluctuations and extremely dry air cause natural wood to warp, crack, or split over time.

Clean your indoor projects with a lightly dampened microfiber cloth. Avoid commercial dusting sprays that contain silicone, as these products leave a sticky, cloudy residue that traps dust and severely complicates future refinishing efforts. For pieces finished with drying oils, such as your serving tray or simple book stand, reapply a food-safe mineral oil and beeswax blend every six months. Simply rub the wax into the grain with a clean cotton rag, let it sit for twenty minutes, and buff it out to restore the wood’s protective moisture barrier.

Inspect your outdoor pieces seasonally. Before the heavy rains of spring arrive, check the cedar planter box for loose screws or signs of rot around the base. If rainwater no longer beads up on the exterior of your birdhouse, apply a fresh coat of spar urethane to reseal the wood against the harsh elements. Tighten any loose hinges or metal hooks on your coat rack annually to maintain maximum structural integrity and prevent unexpected hardware failures.
