7 Big House Sounds That Could Cost You Dearly

#2 Whistling windows?

This may happen when the weather stripping is worn out or when the windows no longer close properly. When the air current passes through, it causes a whistling sound, which is not only annoying when you are trying to get some peace and quiet but can also lead to bigger problems. Not to mention, this is a general energy-wasting issue, as due to the extra cold that enters the house, you have to crank up the heat and thus waste more energy (and money).

If this goes on for too long, your windows can end up rattling, which, besides the annoying sound, can also lead to the windows breaking or cracking due to the bumping motion.

If you start hearing any of these sounds, you should try to find out which one of the windows is causing the sound; it’s fairly easy as you can feel with your hand where the cold is coming in. Then you can DIY the project, as you can change the weather stripping yourself if it is no longer sealed properly. If it looks otherwise okay and there are no problems with it, you will have to call a contractor to look at your window, as there may need to be adjustments in the closing mechanism.
