January

Main project: Landscaping
Bringing in your landscaper before anything blooms may seem counterintuitive. But doing so in January rather than March can save you some big bucks.

According to research, 91% of builders and contractors are busiest during spring and summer, so yard care costs less in winter. If the sun’s shining, the temperature doesn’t matter.

Winter is a great time to start examining tree damage after storms, weed control, and planning your mulching for the spring. So mke sure you don’t forget to add this task to your home maintenance checklist!

Home maintenance checklist for January:
-Check your window sills for signs of water damage.
-Trim all shrubs and trees, especially those too close to the house or exhaust vents.
-Monitor your boiler’s water levels to avoid falling too low.
-Look for any signs of pest activity, especially in the foundation areas.
-Check and change the heating system filters. Most furnace and HVAC filters must be changed at least every three months. Change them   more often if you have large family pets, occasionally use a fireplace, or have allergies.
