Maintenance & Long-Term Care
A new entryway demands minimal but consistent upkeep to maintain its weather resistance and visual appeal. Start by inspecting your exterior weatherstripping every fall. If the foam or rubber shows cracks or permanent compression memory, pull it out of the kerf slot and press in a replacement strip; this two-minute task stops winter drafts instantly.
Clean fiberglass and steel surfaces quarterly using a simple mixture of mild dish soap and warm water. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh chemical cleaners that easily scratch factory paint finishes. If you chose a solid wood slab, you must lightly sand and reapply a UV-resistant marine spar varnish every two to three years. Wood expands and contracts with ambient humidity, so failing to maintain the clear coat inevitably leads to peeling, warping, and irreversible sun damage. Finally, lubricate your hinges and deadbolt internals annually with a dry graphite spray to ensure smooth, silent operation year after year.
