10 Unexpected Paint Colors That Look Beautiful with Natural Wood

Gently wiping away smudges keeps your bold navy walls and natural wood trim looking brand new.

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Maintaining the crisp contrast between your freshly painted walls and your natural wood features requires minimal but consistent effort. Dust your baseboards and door casings weekly using a dry microfiber cloth to prevent dirt from bonding to the edge where the paint meets the wood. When you need to clean smudges off your painted walls, avoid harsh chemical degreasers; instead, use a soft sponge dampened with a mixture of warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Gently wipe the wall without scrubbing aggressively, as heavy friction burnishes the paint finish and leaves shiny spots.

Seasonal humidity changes cause natural wood to expand and contract. Over time, this movement might cause the delicate paint line along your trim to crack or pull away slightly. Inspect these transitional edges annually. If you notice a hairline fracture, you can easily execute a touch-up by applying a tiny bead of paintable acrylic latex caulk to bridge the gap, smoothing it with a damp finger, and carefully applying a fresh dab of leftover paint using a small artist’s brush. Store your leftover touch-up paint in a small, airtight glass jar stored in a climate-controlled area—extreme garage temperatures will ruin the formula.
