10 Best Paint Colors for Hallways With No Windows

Gently wiping away wall scuffs with a microfiber cloth helps maintain your hallway’s bright, clean look.

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

A beautifully painted hallway only retains its charm if you commit to basic, ongoing maintenance. Because hallways act as high-traffic funnels, the walls inevitably collect scuff marks from shoes, smudges from hands, and scratches from passing laundry baskets. Choosing an eggshell or satin finish gives you a protective barrier that stands up to regular cleaning.

For routine maintenance, dust the walls lightly every month using a dry microfiber mop. Removing surface dust prevents grime from embedding into the paint texture. When you spot a dark scuff mark, resist the urge to scrub aggressively with abrasive chemicals. Instead, dampen a soft sponge with warm water and a drop of dish soap. Wipe the mark gently in a circular motion. Melamine foam pads—often sold as magic erasers—work wonders on stubborn marks, but use them sparingly; pressing too hard can dull the sheen of your paint.

Keep a small, airtight glass jar filled with leftover paint stored in a climate-controlled room. Label the jar with the color name and date of application. When a deep scratch inevitably gouges the drywall, use a small artist’s brush to dab a tiny amount of your saved paint directly onto the damage. Feather the edges lightly with your finger to blend the touch-up seamlessly into the surrounding wall.
