#4 Functionality first! Emotional Attachment later!
You shouldn’t let yourself form too many emotional attachments to unnecessary items! Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t saying you have to throw out your wedding dress or any clothes or items of emotional importance to you. But rather, you shouldn’t keep anything in your closet just because it’s the thing you wore for that one event 10 years ago but haven’t worn since then. It’s not practical and you will end up acquiring way too many clothes.
You should periodically go through your clutter and ask yourself a few questions about most of the clothes there that you’re supposed to wear on a daily basis: do you look good in them? Have you worn it since you bought it? Do you adore the product? Because in true Marie Kondo fashion, if it doesn’t spark joy, it’s time to part with it!
If your answer is no to any of those questions (or other questions you may have), then it’s time to donate those clothes so someone else can enjoy them. And just like that, you decluttered your closet!
Some rules will help keep you on track. Click next to discover more about them!
