Z. elegans is the most common zinnia and a species within the Zinnia genus. In fact, there are actually hundreds of cultivars available, classified by groups according to their flower shape and growth habit.

Colors are available in almost every hue, and heights range from six inches to about four feet. After the hummingbirds have taken their nectar shot, seeds will develop as the flowers mature, making them great plants to feed birds like finches.
