Chives

If you are looking for a plant that will be like a secret weapon when it comes to both pests and deer but is also useful inside the kitchen, then look no further than chives. Not only will it be a pest repellant and keep the likes of Japanese beetles and aphids away from your garden, but the strong smell is bound to make deer not even approach your yard in the first place.

Even better, you can use them in the kitchen for a variety of dishes, so it’s also got another function besides steering away deer. Other kitchen herbs that will have the same function as chives but maybe be a bit more friendly with other dishes include leeks, dill, mint, onions, and even fennel.

Keep your yard free of parsley and basil and stick to getting those from your local grocery store as deer just love to munch on those, and even if you have chives or any of the others around, they may just make an effort to get past those for these two!
